Secret Santa

I often have a hard time knowing what to knit for other people. I get all paranoid and pepper them with a billion questions, as poor Tessima can attest. So let’s make it simple:

If I were making you, whomever you are, something as a gift for a Secret Santa exchange, what would you like to have? (Note – there will be no sweaters.) I’m thinking purse, hat, scarf, something along those lines where I don’t have to fit the wearer’s measurements. What colors? Funky or sensible? There are no wrong answers, I’m just curious as to what my peers like!

    Scarves

They are a safe bet since you don’t have to worry about size or gender…you can make it unisex. Along those lines, I’d say go conservative on color unless you know what colors your recipient likes best. Black, grey, navy blue…those are all safe colors if you aren’t sure.

And here I thought you were the queen of funk. My illusions are shattered.

    Re: Scarves

Actually, I like funk quite a bit, but not everyone does. If it were ME, I’d love anything in neutrals, since I wear a lot of black, brown, and grey, but I also adore green, and anything in the “jewel” tone category. Purples, greens, blues, rich reds (nothing bright).

But if it’s not for me, and you don’t know the person’s color preferences, I’d go for something safer.

I’m always partial to looooong, funky scarves, but that’s just me. Dark colors and neutrals usually go over well, though.

Scarves, long and lush with earth tones, especially greens.

I can attest to your fabulous hats, and yes dark colors always go over well, but I love the jewel tones too — rich purples, blues, greens. It’s a statement!

    Hats & Scarves

Usually can’t go too wrong with that.

And on the colors, I’m going to be bold here and say — BE BOLD! This is for someone else, yes, but it’s also something you’re giving them so it should reflect who you are. Although, I suppose if it’s for Secret Santa you don’t want to do that. Although if it’s knitted, they’ll probably know it’s from you anyway, right? 🙂

    BE BOLD!

I think you should make tiny squishy dolls that look like or are representative of the people you’re giving the gifts to. With googly eyes!

Because everyone loves googly-eyed dolls. 🙂

I’d go with a funky/fun purse myself, but that’s just because we don’t get much use of scarves ’round here.

    Just my two cents 🙂
