sigh.

My swift broke. I managed to ball one skein of Blue Sky Bulky in dark blue that I had bought in Alexandria when visiting Ceosanna, Tessima, and co., but the swift is definitely kaput.

I guess it serves me right for buying a used one off of eBay for cheap.

My ball winder also has a distinctive clacking and misses a gear when I turn the crank. This is what happens when a five year old forces the crank to turn. So very sad.

Ah, well, I should go to bed anyway. It was my daughter’s first day of kindergarten today, and we all had a very long day. I’m totally wiped out.

G’Night!

Hey, I never posted any highlights from last week’s game! Hugely long, so it’s behind a cut.

On with the show!

Of the good.

It’s inspirational how even the suckiest situation in the world can, if you just attack it head-on and push through it, turn out all right.

That’s all I’ve got to say. 🙂

All hail Ceosanna!

For verily, she showeth her fashion sense at every turn!

You may remember the bag I just knitted. Well, while in Maryland, I also showed everybody a pendant I had made while in St. Louis. Pictured left, it’s a lampworked glass bead between two Swarovski crystals, on a piece of silver wire that I shaped into a spiral at the bottom. I was picking up supplies for the jewelry seminar I was doing as part of the Simucon career fair, and I saw the bead and just had to have it, so I made this during the seminar to help show people ways to work with wire.

Ceosanna saw it and said, “You know, that perfectly matches that bag you’re working on! I bet it would look great if you put it here, on the pocket, just as a little dangle.”

And you know what? She was right!

Now I’m actually glad that I screwed up the other bag, because with that addition, the bag has officially crossed over into Super Cool territory.

Thanks, Ceosanna!

Day one of the Maryland trip!

August 11th, 2004 12 comments

I wasn’t in the door five minutes before Ceosanna was flashing me.

Actually, she was showing me a trick where her cat climbs up her body and onto her shoulder, but the cat got a claw stuck in the shirt and flashed me a little brassiere. I could tell right away this cat and I were going to get along well.

Ceosanna showed me around their fabulous house, and then we settled in to talk and wait for Tessima. And wait. And wait. And wait. Finally, Tessima called and said she was running late. This was at about 10pm, so we had sort of figured as much. We said, “Sure, no hurry, come on!” and then settled in to watch Iron Chef. I knitted some on a bag I was working on, and we chatted about dogs and cats and guys, not necessarily in that order. To keep the cat from my knitting, I pulled out a strand of blue Coconut, an extremely fuzzy yarn, and Ceosanna teased the cat with it. It tagged her, catching her on the finger. I don’t know what this cat has against her.

Tessima called again, this time saying that she was zonked. We encouraged her to pull in, since we didn’t want her getting killed on the highway. She said she’d join us at about ten the next morning. We made loose plans to visit a yarn shop and also to hit her favorite Chinese food place. It was going to be a pretty flexible day. Ceosanna and I stayed up a bit longer and watched some more Iron Chef, but really, we were both pretty bushed, so we turned in. Since Tessima had been so inconsiderate as to get stuck in traffic, I took the room with the comfy bed, and nyah nyah to her.

All in all, a very pleasant evening with a very pleasant hostess.

The Maryland bag

August 10th, 2004 10 comments

Ceosanna, Tessima, this is how that bag turned out. This pic makes it look a little bigger than it is, I think. I could probably felt it down some more, since it’s still a bit floppy, but I worry that then it will get too small. At this point, my options are to have this be the one I send my niece, or use a different bag pattern and just add a pocket into the design.

Thoughts?

ETA: Here’s another pic with a CD case so you can see size better.
