More fuzzy purple insanity!

Fuzzy Purple ScarfI made another fuzzy purple scarf. Frankly, I can’t be bothered to rotate the picture because it’s almost midnight and I’m also keeping an eye on a wedding reception. You get the idea. It’s purple. And it’s fuzzy.

It’s made of one ball of Crystal Palace “Splash” in Orchid and one half of a ball of Plymouth Yarns’ “Colorlash.” It was a super-quick knit on size 15 needles, and since the Splash was in the bargain bin at my local yarn/fabric store, the total price on it was under 15 bucks. I’ve got enough of the Colorlash left to do something else.

This is also a good lesson in how my digital camera can dramatically screw up the color in something, as witness this picture and this picture of the same scarf.

Currently on the needles: The Manly Hat for my husband. Green and tan bulky wool yarn. Nothing fuzzy or shiny about it!

…and in the spring, it blooms baby blankets.

Iro scarf on treeI made another scarf, but didn’t have a model, so here it is on the sugar maple in our front yard. The colors are washed out. You can see them better here, and you can also see the nice variations in the yarn.

The yarn is Noro Iro, a Japanese yarn that’s 75% wool and 25% silk. The scarf is knit from one skein, done in a simple knit one purl one rib on #17 needles. The needles are massive – as big around as a fat sharpie marker. However, it knit up in one night (okay, I stayed up late) which is the advantage of knitting on huge needles. The yarn is self-striping. It gradually shades from one color to the next, which means I don’t have to switch yarns and weave in ends and stuff if I want to make something multicolored. $18.98 a skein, but it was my birthday, so what the heck. Plus 20 bucks for a handmade wool and silk scarf isn’t bad.

I’m definitely going to get some Noro Kureyon and make a booga bag once the decks are cleared of all the other projects waiting. First, i finish this lacy purple scarf, then the manly hat, then my hip-hop scarf and hat, and then maybe the Waikiki sweater, then the baby blanket I pick up intermittently, then maybe… maybe…
