Back to the wedding questions!

Q: Aren’t you being a bit hasty in rejecting my item?

A: Maybe! So let me go ahead and get a well-reasoned, insightful, rational second opinion from some other GMs.

[Tvini] “Dress Mess uniform” I’m told that this is a RL military thing. Anyone know if we have a DR tradition of “dress mess”? It’s supposedly a formal dress uniform.
[Eisu] I think you should make them describe what it looks like and use that instead of ‘dress mess.’
[Bartlebee] Never heard of Dress Mess. But my experience is handly recent.
[Quarel] British army thing …Jacket used in the mess for formal occsions..never buttons very fancy
[Tvini] I dated a Navy guy once. He never mentioned it. I’m thinkin’ “ceremonial”
[Quarel] I just told ya
[Iocanthe] Ceremonial or formal, mebbe.
[Bartlebee] American usage is just “Dress Uniform”.
[Iocanthe] Or maybe you could offer him “fancy pants”
[Tvini] Yeah, but is it modern? Is it colloquial? Will people looking at it know what “a dress mess uniform jacket” is?
[Eisu] I like (Iocanthe’s).
[Valdrik] In AFROTC, we called it Mess Dress
[Bartlebee] Sure it’s modern. Medieval armies didnt have uniforms.
[Ariawen] I like Ceremonial better.
[Risek] I’ve heard people call them monkey suits. See if he wants one of those. 🙂
[Valdrik] Yeah, they fought nekkid.
[Quarel] Well the one I am thinking of is british from the 17th and 18th century
[Eisu] Just make it a fancy schmancy ceremonial jacket.
[Valdrik] Heh, someone’s throwing logs at these ruffians.
[Iocanthe] I also thought that on the “campaign jacket”, it should have a button that said “Vote for Nixon”.. but that’s just me. 🙂
[Meriel] there weren’t uniform uniforms in the 16th and 17th c. either.
[Quarel] British regimental uniforms yes.
[Iocanthe] With the uniform buckets we left around, we’ve sorta moved away from strictly medieval, anyway. Leaves more wiggle room for other stuff.
[Tvini] Can I use the word “schmancy?”
[Iocanthe] If we bribe (Bartlebee), maybe he’ll make it into an Elven word. 🙂
[Raellia] sounds Gnomish
[Mystery GM] No. The Gnomes can have it.
[Dartenian] Speaking on behalf of the Gnomes…we don’t want it.
[New GM] Make it s’manci
[Tasdrean] Perhaps Shmaenciiey?
[Tvini] I think I should LJ you freaks.
[New GM] Weirdo, please!
[Iocanthe] Nifty..
[Mystery GM] Shmaenciiey would be Elothean.
[Mystery GM 2] Shmaenceihy?
[Risek] Need two apostrophes and at least one unpronounceable combination of letters to be Elothean.

Admittedly, I’m not usually so leading, but there you have it, a second opinion from a bunch of weirdos. Thanks for playing! 🙂

“dress mess”? should be rejected on the basis that it’s a waste of an alteration anyway… how uncreative!

Now, now. One person’s waste of space is another’s masterpiece. 🙂
