Pant pant.

I gained back about five pounds over the summer. Now, school’s back in session. It’s not oppressively hot. I’m not tied to the house. The weight is an unwelcome guest who came to stay during vacation. It’s time to say goodbye.

Today’s run wasn’t a stellar performance. It’s going to take a little time to get my mojo back, so I’ve been walking more over the last week. Today I started running again. My lungs let me know that perhaps I shouldn’t have neglected them so much over the summer. However, it still felt good to get out there again. I went along the Little Sugar Creek Greenway, which I enjoy for the scenery. I didn’t push myself too much. When I saw a little green hummingbird zipping among orange flowers on a thin vine, I stopped and watched for a bit. Fitness isn’t just about body, its about mind, too.

I am SO GLAD that I’m not the only one who stops in an exercise to watch something interesting or unusual or look at something purdy. When I go on my morning walks around the neighborhood, I’m always stopping to chat with people (who always invite me in for coffee and cookies and it would be IMPOLITE to say no, right?), playing with dogs who come up to me, staring at the weird old guy on the corner who mows his lawn in a gold lame speedo and NOTHING ELSE, watching the bees collect pollen from the flowers alongside the road, figuring out what exactly that cloud looks like, among other things…lol. It amazes me how long my morning walk actually takes!

    lol

    I love distractions. 🙂

Just remember, it’s not really aerobic activity if you stop every five minutes for everything. That’s not to say that stopping to smell the roses isn’t important, but we can’t kid ourselves into thinking that we’re getting the benefit of running a 5K race if we stop every hundred feet along the track. 😉
