LOST: the home game

September 6th, 2007 Leave a comment Go to comments

I am consantly losing my keys. Today I was going to pick up Emily from school a few minutes early, but instead, I made it just in the nick of time, right before they stuck her in the lost and found box.

My keys are currently on a nondescript metal ring. I used to have this cool little pewter ball of yarn on them, courtesy of , but it finally got lost after breaking off one too many times in my pocket. (I did love it, though, Mel!)

What I need is something that will stand out. Something colorful. Maybe even gaudy.

Can you find me a key fob that fits that bill? Non-pornographic, please, but noticeable. I’m tired of losing my keys. I await your comments!

I gave up on all of that and just put a hook by the door. If they aren’t on the hook, I am screwed.

I put a clip on my keyring and clip it to my purse. I had to make it a habit, no matter what, I clip the keys to my purse. The purse is a lot easier to find than just the keys.

What about a ball of yarn in the Jayne hat colors? Either a pompom sort of thing from scrap yarn, or take a wad of scrap spinning wool, stick it in an old nylon and run it through the wash a few times.

I say you make a mini-jayne hat and attach it to a key ring. Either knit one, or make one out of fimo clay. I bet Emily would enjoy helping you with that. I dunno. I can pull out my dremel and cut a hat shape out of some wood and you can paint that if you want.

Good idea. I wonder if I’d actually remember to put them on the hook. Hm…

That’s a good idea, but I sometimes go out without my purse. Still, you’re right, it’s easier to find the purse. Food for thought.

I’m afraid in my house, the Jayne hat yarn is no longer unusual enough to catch my eye.

When I lock the door behind me I see the hook. It has become habit now.

Those look really interesting. I’d never heard of split ply weaving before.

I hadn’t either until about a month ago.

I was going to say you should knit one. Then you could use your favorite yarn, colors that’d stand out to you, make it as big, small, wide, or thin as you want.

    Or felt one. Oooh.

I’m going to Disneyland next month, I could look for a big ol’ sparkly Tinkerbell or something for you if you want.

Likewise, I have a bowl on a table by the door that I simply empty my pockets into when I get home. Then I always know where my wallet and keys are. Usually my phone is there too, unless it needs to be charged or I made a phone call. Then it’s probably lost.

I have a table just under the hook. My purse goes on it along with anything I think needs to go with me the next time I leave the house. So if I think of it, it goes on the table. Otherwise I spend days looking for things.

Why can I remember conversations from 5 years ago but I can’t find my keys??

    Beware the key-ring hook plaques!

You might want to be careful using a key-ring hook plaque. That is the first place thieves go to steal cars and stuff!! P.S. I use one anyway. I don’t figure I have anything worth stealing. LOL

Re: Beware the key-ring hook plaques!

true – but I think the replacement value on my 2000 Toyota Corolla is more than if I tried to sell it…and if they are in my house and my keys are here, well, they have already killed me, so who cares?? My spare car key is hidden in the house.

These are esp bad to have if you place them next to a widnow where someone breaks the window and gets into the house with your keys right there, mine isn’t.
