Crud.

Thought I’d knit a pair of Fuzzyfeet (felted slippers, you knit them big and then shrink them in a washing machine) as a gift for my kid’s teacher. The weather was horrid this morning, so I wasn’t going anywhere anyway, and I could use a break from the hats.

I just bound off the toes on the first one, only to finally notice that I had misplaced a gusset, so the toes were turned at a 90 degree angle.

I’ll have to rip back to the heel flap to fix that.

Swell. Just swell.

Of course, the optimist in me is very pleased with the way the kitchener stitch bind-off turned out. Very clean! I’m such a silver-lining person, it’s got to be irritating. 🙂

Ramblings.

The Arizona Republic’s gift guide is out, and I don’t see the Jayne hat. It could be that they ran out of space, or it wasn’t mainstream enough, or that it’s just in the print version but not the online one. I’ve put out a call for some Arizona Browncoats to take a peek at the physical newspaper and see if it’s there.

That’s disappointing, but it’s not as if I could have handled extra Christmas business. On the up side, everyone whom I’ve promised a hat to by Christmas has either gotten or is going to get their hat in the next few days, so that’s some pressure off. Now on to the people whom I told, “you *might* get it by Christmas, but I can’t promise it.”

Rented and saw The 40 Year Old Virgin last night. It was the unrated version, and holy moly, if I put a nickel in the swear jar every time someone cursed, then by the time the movie was over I would have had enough to actually purchase the DVD. Steve Carrell was brilliant as always. Fun movie, we enjoyed it. And speaking as a woman who has waxed, I enjoyed my husband’s astonishment at watching Steve get his chest waxed. Yeah, see? Not so easy, is it, mister!

Winter weather today, icicles on the car and ickiness all around. I won’t be going anywhere this morning if I can help it. I’m enjoying knitting, though, and also putting lots of juicy rumors and visions in to DR. If ever there were a time to be using those systems, it’s now, with all the events going on. With all the ice, let’s hope the power holds out.

Today I think I’ll make hot cocoa and have a Tim Tam Slam through my lone remaining Tim Tam. Godspeed, little camper!

Next up, get a sitter to come over so we can go see King Kong!

ETA: It’s in the print version! A customer has offered to mail me a copy! Woo hoo!

I’m doooomed!

My mostest favoritest local yarn shop, Charlotte Yarn, has started carrying yarn which has been exclusively dyed for them by Danette Taylor.

I love Danette Taylor’s yarn! She custom-dyed the green yarn for me for this blanket when I couldn’t find bulky green cotton I liked anywhere else. And I love Charlotte Yarn! They’ve got fabulous service, a great selection, and the best prices in the Charlotte area. And they had this skein of Danette-dyed variegated blue alpaca on display that was 436 yards for only $36. It’s enough to make a girl jump on the Clapotis bandwagon.

Is this the end of my bank balance? ARGH!

Poetry contest?

December 12th, 2005 2 comments

Do I want to do another of the periodic poetry contests in the community just now?

On the one hand, I’ve got enough going on. On the other hand, it’s not that much work.

On the one hand, I do have to pay for shipping. On the other hand, I get at least that much back in enjoyment from reading the entries.

On the one hand, there’s not a lot of time before Christmas. On the other hand, it’s Julfest from Naturwolle and you can’t get much more Christmasy than that.

Decisions, decisions…

Why I Love My Husband, Part 28.

December 11th, 2005 2 comments

I’m under the weather, and thought a cup of cocoa might make me feel better.

Me, looking in the cabinet: “I don’t know, though, a cup of green tea might be better.”
Him, understanding that I want to justify the cocoa: “You can’t suck green tea through a TimTam! Are you nuts?”

Thanks, sweetie!

Christmas is the joy of giving… to me!

I kid. I actually enjoy giving thing to others, and trying to think of unusual, unexpected, small things others might enjoy. That’s definitely something I got from my parents, especially my creampuff dad.

However, I also like to dream. 🙂

And so I present: 10 utterly frivolous things which I covet. Please note: I am not hinting for stuff, I’m just having a little capitalist interlude here.

Sad but sweet.

I kept last year’s stack of Christmas cards because I never got around to actually putting the addresses into my address book for sending cards to this year.

I found GM Jeremael’s in the stack.

Yep, that’s Jerry all right.

Miss ya, big guy. I’m thinking of you.

Please post a comment with a COMPLETELY MADE UP AND FICTIONAL memory of you and me. It can be anything you want – good or bad – BUT IT HAS TO BE FAKE.

When you’re finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people DON’T ACTUALLY remember about you.

In honor of the season, I made a new little icon. Badly photoshopped Santa hat on rugged and manly Jayne mug! Whee!
