If you fall off that horse…

Things I wish I had a picture of:
My daughter in her swimsuit, walking back to the hotel room. Her left arm is crabbed, her fingers curled into a claw. She’s got her left foot turned to the side and is dragging her leg. Her head is tilted at a 45 degree angle.
Me: What are you doing?
Her: I’m a zombie!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!! That’s mommy’s little weirdo.

I… I…
Nope, I got nothing.

One thing that I wanted to be sure I did this weekend was to take time for a walk on the beach. My life gets very busy, and it’s easy to let my thoughts be filled with nothing but what I have to do. I stopped and stood for a long time, looking at the waves and letting my feet sink into the sand. It took a while for my brain to stop buzzing and become more calm.
Oddly, one thing I kept thinking was that I’d like to dye a yarn to match the color of the sand around my feet. And I realized that I really, really like dyeing. I’d like to explore it more. I’d like to try more techniques and experiment with self-striping and develop new methods for achieving the results I want. I’d like to do all the mental work involved in figuring out ways to get consistent results from batch to batch, and to produce in larger quantities.
In short, I want to sell. I actually like selling on the internet. The trick now is acquiring the expertise, and finding the time, money, and space to make it happen. I don’t know if this is something that I can do within even a year. My life is busy as it is, and there’s not a whole lot that I can or want to let fall away.
It may be a while, but I’m glad that I had the time to be still enough to learn this.
Finally had time to make some progress on my socks. Two at a time on two circs, toe-up, gusset, slipstitch heel. Decreased from 60 to 56 for the leg, which will be 2×2 ribbing. This is the first time I’ve done a gusset toe-up, so I feel good about that.
The yarn is Louet Gems, handdyed by me.
The picture, while nice, was better in idea than in execution. I looked like a contortionist on the dunes trying to keep the sand off of my feet.
I’ll be uploading a bigger version of this pic when I’m at home with my lovely lampshade Mac.
After knitting a few rows, I figured out yardage on that blue scarf I posted a couple of days ago. Turns out I’ll be 170 yards short if I go by the pattern. Oops. I’m going to rejigger the math to make it 1/3 skinnier, since that yarn cost $20 and I’m not spending another $20 for another skein. Anyway, the yarn store didn’t have another one in that colorway, so there.
Even less awesome, this afternoon Em started asking me what could get rid of cavities and probing one particular spot in her mouth. Then tonight, she came out of her bedroom and said she needed to brush her teeth again to make her cavity go away. On her way back to bed, she said, “I’ll floss in the morning.”
I know a little girl who’s going to the dentist tomorrow. Poor kid.
