It’s been a long week of Spring Break. The last couple of days in particular have been a repeating chorus of “watch me!” “Look at this!” “Follow me!”
Today I found myself groaning as I got out of my chair to follow her again. Then I realized that as recently as last year, she wasn’t sharing things with us like this. She was doing her own thing, and she never brought her pictures in for us to see, or asked us to listen to the music she made. So yeah, maybe a million requests for attention a day feels like a burden sometimes, but it’s really a tremendous gift. My daughter wants to share her life with me. And I’m grateful.
According to the latest Serenity comic, Jayne’s mother’s name was “Radiant.”
Just call me Radiant Cobb.
On a related note, anybody want to test-knit my new free baby Jayne hat pattern? I think it’s ready for release, but I’d like to have someone else actually knit it before I put it out there. I can pay you in nice yarn.
ETA: I have a taker. Thanks!
School’s out this week, which means Jayne hats are going to be running a little slower than I’d like. C’est la vie.
Mr. Tvini had his stress test today. We were very fortunate, because fellow knitter Rachel had scheduled a play date for her niece and my daughter and me for today. I wasn’t able to go, but she very thoughtfully agreed to take both girls to Discovery Place so I could go be with Steve without worry. I know Em had a good time because when she got back, she pretended to take a nap for a little while, and I’m pretty sure she actually drifted off. Heh.
Tomorrow, Em says she wants to go to the Zoo. It’s excellent timing, since the NC Zoo just opened up a new and improved Watani Grasslands Reserve elephant habitat. They used to have an Australian exhibit, but that was temporary and so we told her that the animals had to go back to Australia. She keeps asking if the other animals have to go back to Africa now, so I think she thinks all the exhibits are temporary.
I’m lucky to have the luxury of being able to pack up and go to the zoo without having to schedule time off of work. As I say, Jayne hats will go more slowly because of time constraints this week, but I’ve got to be a mother first.
Way past bedtime now. I can’t be backsliding on getting enough sleep when there’s a day trip tomorrow!
In the process of transferring old LJ posts over. Stay tuned!
Is it my imagination, or are all of this person’s hats actually other peoples’ designs tweaked just a bit?

Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but if that’s what’s going on, I figure they should be politely informed that it’s Not Cool. To that end, I gave a heads-up to the designers, so they could make their own call.
Of course, I could be totally wrong. It wouldn’t be the first time.
I myself made the sock monkey hat last year, so that’s what hit my radar when I saw this post.
In other news, I’m working on hats from Feb 7th and later, so we’re currently on schedule with the Jaynes. Yay!

On a less serious note, I had a lot of time to knit in waiting rooms today and didn’t bring enough Jayne hat yarn with me to get more than one done, so I did a lot of knitting on the sock. I loved it at the toe, but now… well… I’m loving it less. I want a second opinion.
So, bearing in mind that the line of red at the toe is a lifeline and not part of the yarn, question!
