That benadryl knocked me out yesterday. I got Em and we went home and I was in bed by 3. I got up for a while around 8, but I was still pretty sleepy.
I haven’t taken any yet today. I need to do things like pay bills and get groceries and didn’t want to be completely out of commission.
I’m still stopped up, but not quite as badly. I was running a fever of about 99.5 yesterday, so maybe it was a cold. Or maybe my system’s just in full freakout mode from lack of oxygen. Well, whatever, hopefully tomorrow things will be better.
Today’s Emily art: ” Jamie Is Talking To The Sun.” I think the object at left is a house, not a rocket ship. Or maybe it’s both, I didn’t ask. Emily sometimes tells me she wants to be the first person to go to the sun, so maybe that’s how she’ll get there.

My yarn from yesterday’s dyeing session is still drying, so I can’t show it yet. Instead, here’s some art from Emily. I think I’m going to start showing more of her art. As her mother, this no doubt interests me more than you, but that’s why God gave us index fingers – to be able to click past such things. Of course, you can always use that same ability to click for a larger picture. Just sayin’.
This picture cracks me up because of the shocked looks of the mother and father compared with giggly expression of the girl on the right, who is probably a big sister. Em gets pretty expressive, considering she mainly makes stick figures using ball point pen as her medium.
As for me, I’m about to take some Benadryl, lie down, and wonder if it’s possible to die of pollen.
My daughter asked me this morning about breakfast foods. We talked about which foods are good breakfast foods, and added in some silly ones like “raw eggs” and “iced bacon.” She said she wanted to have some breakfast foods. Because she’s such a picky eater, I leapt at this opportunity. Soon she had a full meal in front of her with things I thought she’d probably like, and a couple of things which were stretches. A leftover banana/chocolate chip muffin, cinnamon toast, French toast, scrambled eggs, half a grapefruit with brown sugar, and orange juice. Some of those things I know she likes. She has orange juice pretty much every day, and she’s often asked for cinnamon toast, for instance.
As soon as it was in front of her, she blinked at it a little, then said that her friend Jayme had liked the scrambled eggs the best. Then she turned away from it and wouldn’t look in that direction again until I took it away. She didn’t want to taste a bite.
Why do I bother?
After I got a little bit of French toast in me, I told her she had to have just a little bit of the breakfast – we’re not going to waste an entire meal cooked just for her. I know she has issues, but I also know her, and this wasn’t asking too much. She did have a bite of everything except, oddly, the things that I already know she likes. I wonder if she knew the point of this was partially for her to try new things, and those weren’t new things. Hm. Anyway, she did it with minimal complaint, because she is, at heart, a good kid.
Looking on the bright side, I now have a much better breakfast than I would otherwise have made for myself.
When’s Mother’s Day again?

My daughter the comedian. In case you can’t read it, it says that she knows a kindergartener named Cliff Hanger. This is hi-LAR-ious to her. Switching the name to Hiff Clanger runs a close second.
She’s had lots of fun with this over the last couple of days. I’m a little hoarse from shouting and laughing. Good times.
Earlier this year, I laid off doing the Couch to 5K program for a while, but with the weather so nice, I was ready to start back up. After a week or so of walking 2 1/2 miles a day, I gave it a go today. I’m not dead, so that’s good! I am, however, as red as always. I’ve written about this before. It’s strictly a cosmetic issue, as near as I can tell.
I think from now on, I’m not going to use beats per minute as an indicator of how good a workout is. I’m going to use a color scale, like dentists do when bleaching your teeth. Today: strawberry syrup. Good workout!
Having my skin turn this red is probably bad for my complexion, but then, dying of health problems related to obesity would probably be even worse for it, so I can deal.
Flickr now allows uploading of video, so let’s try it out and see how it works. Is it visible?
This is my husband and daughter last night. Darling, this is not what they mean by “winding down for bedtime.”
It’s been a long week of Spring Break. The last couple of days in particular have been a repeating chorus of “watch me!” “Look at this!” “Follow me!”
Today I found myself groaning as I got out of my chair to follow her again. Then I realized that as recently as last year, she wasn’t sharing things with us like this. She was doing her own thing, and she never brought her pictures in for us to see, or asked us to listen to the music she made. So yeah, maybe a million requests for attention a day feels like a burden sometimes, but it’s really a tremendous gift. My daughter wants to share her life with me. And I’m grateful.
