\nCoconut Cream Pie<\/center><\/p>\n

“Emily, that pie’s for Grandpa.”<\/b>
\n(Pulls back her finger, which has made a little dent in the meringue) “Okay.”<\/i>
\n“How is it?”<\/b>
\n“It’s good!”<\/i><\/p>\n

Less than five minutes later, she pads into the kitchen again, and I hear her stop right in front of the pie.<\/p>\n

“Emily, what are you doing?”<\/b>
\n“I’m just testing to see if it’s still hot.”<\/i> (She knows it’s not.)
\n“Oh, you are, are you?”<\/b>
\n“Yeah.”<\/i><\/p>\n

So I scrape her off a little sliver of meringue, which she eats.
\n“I’d better test another place.”<\/i>
\nI scrape off another small piece. “That’s all we’re going to have.”<\/b>
\n(Walking away) “Yep, it’s cool enough.”<\/i><\/p>\n
