She’s already past her usual lifespan, so I am grateful to see her bloom every year. Her growth was stunted from being right next to a road for the first half of her life. The road was torn out about thirty years ago, and that was the chance she was waiting for. That first year, when her roots could stretch a bit, she produced berries for the first time.

Each year the bloom time seems just a little bit shorter, and the petals are already starting to snow down onto the grass. Still, we can see tall stands of white blossoming in the woods out back, children of this old girl. She’s done all right for herself.

In more prosaic news, my daughter deleted some custom content for our Sims2 game. She got rid of the Christmas stuff Maxis had made available around the holidays. Apparently she did this because it’s not Christmas anymore. We’ve asked her not to delete custom content, and I pointed out that we might want it again next Christmas. So now she wants it back.

Except that, as has happened before, we can’t downlad because, NONE of the usernames that we’ve created for the EA Games site work. However, we know we’ve created them, because in creating a new one this morning, they were all taken. I’m sorry, but nobody but me is likely to take “Tvini” as a username, not to mention the other weird ones we’ve used. So we did create a new one. Again. And I can’t download the content again because you have to input your Sims2 registration code (and it’s got to be a Sims2 one, just plain Sims won’t work) and we’ve previously used that code on the other names we’ve registered, so it won’t recognize it as valid. I can’t find anyplace on the site to actually mail someone and talk about this, and the forums won’t let me post.

I could try to find and buy the Christmas party expanion set, but most of the items were available for free online, and apparently not enough suckers bought that pack for it to even be available on eBay right now.

So. Very. Frustrating.

On the knitting front, I’m about to place another KnitPicks order, and so will be seeing if overseas folks want to hop on board the yarn train for that one. Knitpicks doesn’t ship overseas, but I do, so it’s a nice way to try out some new yarn for folks across the pond. My husband has finally admitted that he will probably not be building the Rube Goldberg contraption that he had dreamed up to help me measure yarn, so I am free to upgrade from my homemade niddy noddy to a yarn meter that should count more accurately. I invariably send out way too much yarn in my kits, and I’d like to get that down to just “a little too much” without a lot of guesswork. I’ll kind of miss using the niddy noddy, though. Using it, I always felt proud of my l33t dremel skillz.

My Wool Connection catalog arrived today. Looks like Nicky Epstein’s put out a new book for 2006 called Fabulous Felted Bags with some interesting things in it. Take “interesting” how you will.

I don’t know why I want the purse on the left, but I do.

The purse on the right… not so much. Ahem.

Drowned Grover Hat is still damp, but seems to be bouncing back. Whew!

It remains to be seen as to whether it will fully return to its former glory.

We’re in the home stretch! <lj user=Tyrathia>‘s scarf is about 4/5 done.

I need to catch up with her and find out just how long she wants it to be. It falls to my hips, and I’m 5’4″.
If ever there were an example of what blocking can do for a scarf, this will be it.
On the left, bumpy and newly knitted.
