I guess I hadn’t really thought much about wildlife being a menace in combat, but after uploading a 1943 Flit insecticide ad<\/a> the other day, I found this.

Lions and Tigers Oh My! Vietnam<\/h1>\n

The Tiger– Pete “the Greek” Agriostathes –
\nB\/1\/501<\/p>\n

We saw his prints by the riverbed that day
\nAnd were amazed by their size
\nAn eerie vibe hung in the air
\nLike we were being stalked with his eyes!<\/p>\n

We had heard the stories
\nHow you’ve tasted soldier meat
\nAnd hunted at night
\nWhile we were asleep!<\/p>\n

We soon forgot about them
\nAs the sun went down
\nAnd we set up camp by the river
\nIn a clear piece of ground
\n\"Lions<\/a>
\nNight fell hard and black
\nWe tried to sleep
\nBut were restless from recent battles
\nYet no one talked or made a peep!<\/p>\n

Then in the black of night
\nWe heard splashing in the river
\nAnd since “Charlie” moved in silence
\nIt made our spines quiver!<\/p>\n

We hunkered down
\nFigured there was 30 or more
\nI told Sarge here we go
\nKatie bar the door!<\/p>\n

Then someone yelled
\nIt’s the Tiger and he’s coming fast
\nWe aimed at the shadow
\nAnd cut loose with a blast!<\/p>\n

We hollered for “Shorty”
\nGet up here with your “thump gun”
\nHe said, “I’m not on that cats’ menu.”
\nAnd broke into a run!<\/p>\n

So we fired a couple clips of “16”
\nAnd tossed two Grenades
\nAnd one last deafening roar
\nThe Tiger made!!<\/p>\n

The next morning we tracked him down
\nThere he lay upon the ground
\nHis beauty took our breath away
\nNo one made a sound!<\/p>\n

I said, I’m sorry my friend
\nYour life had to end
\nLike us you were caught up in a war
\nYet killing you seems like a sin!
\nThe Tiger!<\/p>\n
