\nWhen last we left our group, everybody except the wizard Aleanghi was arrested after a really great bar brawl.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Veracity: <\/b><\/font>And we were trying to HELP! There is no justice \ud83d\ude41
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>I believe Torkal is too much of a badass to be arrested. He instead was simply remarked upon as amazingly sexy and left alone.
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>Torkal was brained by a large burly guard named Bunny<\/a> and tossed in the gaol.<\/i> Your party is currently in a cell. There are cells lined along the hallway. 5 lizard men are in the cell next to you and 3 drunkards are across from you.<\/p>\n

I decide to talk with the lizardmen, although Torkal has created some animosity there, what with punching one of them in the face, so I have to roll. I don’t have my character sheet open yet so I don’t know what modifier to add to my diplomacy roll.<\/p>\n

Palin: <\/b><\/font>Uh… I’m still pulling up my sheet.
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>Palin pulls up her bunk sheet revealing some leg. Some hairy leg.<\/i>
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>A+.
\nVal: <\/b><\/font>does that create animosity as well?
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>My milkshake brings all the lizardmen to the yard.
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>Torkal is quieted!
\nBentein: <\/b><\/font>It worked on Torkal. Good enough.
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>The lizardmen respond they were on a recent campaign and entered the tavern for a drink where they were accosted by the drunkards.<\/i>
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>I don’t want that kind of attention from Torkal. No offense.
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>None taken. Torkal has a brotherly love for Palin. Val, on the other hand…
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>Nope. No love at all. What did you think I was gonna say?<\/p>\n

I try to make nice with the lizardmen, but they’re not real keen on that.
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>The lizardman responds then why did your kinsman attack us?<\/i>
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>“In the heat of battle, he mistook your friend’s approach for an attack. He defended himself. Unfortunately, he has a habit of occasionally hitting us, too. It’s purely his ineptness, not malice.”
\nVeracity: <\/b><\/font>Veracity chokes down a snicker, and turns it into a sneezing noise.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>“We can all show you scars. Especially the Elf.”
\nVal: <\/b><\/font>Val is unusually quiet.<\/p>\n

I’ll bet he is. I’m also trying to remember the name of the guy.
\nVal: <\/b><\/font>which guy?
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>The alderman I gave the mutton to when we rescued him. He said he owed us.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>Oh, wait! I have his ring! I don’t suppose examining the ring will jog my memory?
\nAleanghi: <\/b><\/font>Palin is engaged to the alderman?
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>It might, Palin is not quite the sharpest awl on the rack. roll a d20<\/i>
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>Palin would like to give it the ole Dwarven try.
\nPalin rolled 1 20-sided die: 5<\/b>
\nAleanghi: <\/b><\/font>You think his name began with a silent Q.
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>Palin says, “Oooh, shiny” to herself<\/i>
\nAleanghi: <\/b><\/font>I like mine better.<\/p>\n

Then, it’s showtime! We are taken to the magistrate<\/a>‘s chamber, where we appoint Bentein, as the respectable cleric, to plead our case.<\/p>\n

Bentein: <\/b><\/font>“Your Honor, we came upon the fight in the tavern and attempted to calm everyone down. Unfortunately, we were attacked in the process and did our best to defend ourselves without undue harm. As to the theft of the beer, I have been told that Veracity attempted to pay for it but was unable to at first due to the chaos in the room.”<\/p>\n

Bentein rolls well on diplomacy.<\/p>\n

GM Vaschon: <\/b>The magistrate dismisses the charge of disorderly conduct, brawling in public, however informs your party that she needs to pay 3x the amount of the drink.<\/i>
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>Wow.
\nBentein: <\/b><\/font>“Thank you your Honor, that is more than fair.”
\nVeracity: <\/b><\/font>Veracity widens her eyes and radiates injured innocence and honesty for all she is worth.<\/p>\n

We also have to pay court costs, but considering how inept our party usually is, we got off light. We pay Bunny the guard and ask him what’s gone on in town with finding the Baron’s daughter. He doesn’t know, but he does know that Sully the bartender’s trial is in a few days.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, we gather up our gear. Torkal, who has been holding our cash for us, divvies it up while we think about what we’re going to purchase in the way of supplies.<\/a><\/p>\n

Torkal: <\/b><\/font>Torkal does some serious math and hands out: 6g28s5b33c to everyone.
\nVal: <\/b><\/font>cool
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>Oh. And that was just the spare change. Torkal’s been stockpiling money for a hella while.
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>Torkal hands out an additional 83g.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>Each??
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>Yes.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>HOLY GOD.
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>Your party is standing in the center of town, outside the justice keep with a\u00a0bat flapping around.<\/i>
\nVeracity: <\/b><\/font>wow
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>Well, we never did get that armor and stuff.
\nBentein: <\/b><\/font>Bentein sort of looks at the cash blankly.<\/p>\n

<\/a>
\nAwesome! Money to burn! Aleanghi arrives wearing her hat of the magi.<\/a><\/p>\n

Val: <\/b><\/font>Val looks at Ale and immediately wants to ask her to help him with a crossword puzzle<\/p>\n

We get her up to speed, and she gets us up to speed. She spent the night in an inn.
\nAleanghi: <\/b><\/font>“Oh, and Veracity, the chambermaid asked about you.”
\nVeracity: <\/b><\/font>Veracity simply replies, “Of course she did.\u00a0 Once experienced, never forgotten.”<\/p>\n

We all hunt around for weapons and armor lists to figure out what we want to buy.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>My inventory’s too sprawly.\u00a0 I’m losing track.\u00a0 I need to consolidate into fewer but more badass pieces of armor and weaponry.
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>A mentor announces a festival coming soon.<\/i><\/p>\n

It’s hilarious if you play Dragonrealms.<\/a> Anywho, we decide to go see the Baron first. He asks for an update.<\/p>\n

Torkal: <\/b><\/font>Torkal offers, “We have pressed deep into the mine. It’s ridiculously complex to explain… but that mine is infested with evil magic, hobgoblins, necromancy, and much worse.”
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>Torkal taps his magic specs, which he’s now wearing. “An evil magician was creating golems in there. We’ve put a stop to it, but we’re not to the bottom — yet.”
\nVal: <\/b><\/font>Val explains that, “Essentially we’ve had to weed out numerous kobold necromancers, but yes…we’ve run into other, more complex situations as my companion here has mentioned.”
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>“Something else is going on.”
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>“We have rescued some of the miners, as well.”
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>The baron says, “Yes, miners have been arriving in town.\u00a0 You have our gratitude for such an endeavor.”<\/i>
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>He asks what is left to be done<\/i>
\nVal: <\/b><\/font>Val ventures, “I have been curious if there have been any new developments with the slavers situation. Has Sully spilled any secrets yet?”
\nVal: <\/b><\/font>“Has there perhaps been some sort of ransom note?”
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>The baron responds that its been a week but in 3 more days there is to be a meeting, according to the documents retrieved.<\/i>
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>Palin comments to Val, “I’m not sure Sully has secrets to spill, but I suppose the magistrate will get to the bottom of that.”
\nVal: <\/b><\/font>Val inquires, “Do you believe that there are any preparations we should make in our attempt to intercede?”
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>The baron responds that if you are to take on this mission that your party will need to make their own preparations.\u00a0 He states the baron will give a reward for her safe return.<\/i>
\nVal: <\/b><\/font>Val bows courteously.
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>any other questions for the baron?<\/i>
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>“Your guards mentioned that there were still raids going on.\u00a0 Have they changed in frequency or severity since last we spoke?”
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>The baron responds that the guards have been limited to the city limits to protect against attacks.\u00a0 He adds there is a reward for information on the enemy camp.<\/i>
\nVal: <\/b><\/font>Val strokes his chin at hearing about this reward.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>“Have you heard from any of the other groups who you sent on missions?”
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>The baron responds that with the recent turmoil in Greyhawk, the number of visitors and adventurers has been lower than usual.\u00a0\u00a0 The attacks on the city here have made it even worse.\u00a0 Currently there are 3 groups who have accepted missions he’s waiting to hear back from.<\/i><\/p>\n

That’s about it. We politely withdraw and start shopping. I get taken to the cleaners because my charisma is extremely low. Like, “oh my God, a leper” low. I then wise up and, like everyone else, get Bentein to buy all my stuff. People give the attractive cleric better prices. Good plan. Val’s buying sunrods, and this is the picture<\/a> the GM gave us for the shopkeep.<\/p>\n

We elect to buy the usual stuff – arrows, shields, etc. – but then start ranging further afield with stuff like a pickaxe, crowbar, and rope.<\/p>\n

GM Vaschon: <\/b>Silk rope or Hemp rope<\/i>
\nAleanghi: <\/b><\/font>Aleangi is going to ask about silk first.
\nAleanghi: <\/b><\/font>Because lighter is gonna help.
\nAleanghi: <\/b><\/font>And Val shouldn’t be the only one having fun around here.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>I appreciate that, Aleanghi.\u00a0 Next time I’m tied to someone I won’t get rope burn.
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>Silk rope is 10gp, the hemp is 1 gp<\/i>
\nAleanghi: <\/b><\/font>I’ll go ahead with the silk.\u00a0 Did you also get my ration refills?
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>Or maybe when Palin gets tied up, she can smoke the hemp rope<\/i>
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>Well, I’ll be on fire, so why not?<\/p>\n

Val also wants ink, but it’s crazy expensive.
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>8 gp per vial<\/i>
\nAleanghi: <\/b><\/font>Dude.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>It’s made from squid.\u00a0 Do you know how hard it is to get squids around here?
\nBentein: <\/b><\/font>Ink is usually made from oak galls and rusty nails.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>Yes.\u00a0 Driven into squids.<\/p>\n

Val buys a mirror but passes on the ink. Guess he won’t be dyeing those gray hairs. He also wants other cool toys, like smoke sticks.<\/p>\n

Val: <\/b><\/font>geez how can a smoke stick cost 20 gp
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>It’s Cuban.<\/p>\n

Hello? Is this thing on? Sigh. Anyway, Palin buys five pieces of chalk, a grappling hook, hemp rope, a sewing needle, thread, some woodcarving tools, rations, a waterskin, and a hunk of cheese.<\/p>\n

We have some valuable stuff to sell, too – Veracity gets 300 gold for her cloak of blur, and Torkal gets 145 gold for his Silver Ring of Detect Undead.<\/p>\n

Palin: <\/b><\/font>What the… when did he get that?
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>Long time ago.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>And where was it when we needed it for the vampire spawn?
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>He never wore it. He’s wearing his ring of lesser cold resist, though.
\nBentein: <\/b><\/font>I think we figured out the guy was undead anyway.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>True dat.
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>Good call, Bentein.<\/p>\n

Finally, we’re done.<\/p>\n

GM Vaschon: <\/b>The shopkeep hangs the “closed” sign up and locks up shop but not before thanking you for your patronage.\u00a0 You hear a muffled “suckers” moments later.<\/i><\/p>\n

And that’s where we pick up this week. Geared up and ready for action!
