\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>The rust monster advances as 2 others emerge. The rust monster is about the size of a small pony. The smaller ones are about the size of great danes \ud83d\ude42<\/i><\/p>\nFor those not in the know, rust monsters eat metal.
\nVal: <\/b><\/font>A metal weapon that deals damage to a rust monster corrodes immediately. Wooden, stone, and other nonmetallic weapons are unaffected.<\/p>\nMost of us don’t have non-metal weapons, so we try to come up with plans.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>what can I do, smother it with my bedroll?
\nVeracity: <\/b><\/font>Okay, Veracity has a fishing net and isn’t afraid to use it.\u00a0 Is there any chance she can entangle the monster in the net and sort of….inconvenience it?\u00a0 Maybe even pull it off balance?
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>What if we toss it something metal to distract it, then while it’s distracted beat the living crap out of it?
\nVal: <\/b><\/font>i like that idea
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>Or, here’s an idea, climb down.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>I didn’t see any rusted metal at the base.
\nVal: <\/b><\/font>although the wiki says it goes after the largest metal object
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>Yeah. About that. Torkal and Palin are wearing sheet metal.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>heh.
\nVal: <\/b><\/font>it says the rust monster will give chase
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>Well. Torkal has a few spear +1s with him.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>ah.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>I’m liking the distract and pummel, then.
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>Let’s throw one of those at a big rust monster.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>I also have a spear +1
\nVal: <\/b><\/font>if the head of the spear corrodes maybe you can still use it as a beatin stick<\/p>\nIt’s a plan! Torkal and Palin throw their spears at the creatures for minimal damage, but at least they wind up with poles to beat the monsters with!<\/p>\n
Klyx casts burning hands on the big rust monster, rolls very well and manages to kill it. On Bentein’s turn, he decides to see if they can swim and climbs back down the rocky outcropping. The rest of us are baffled by this sudden retreat into the water.
\nVal: <\/b><\/font>…the water? isn’t it like 2”?
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>feet, not inches.
\nBentein: <\/b><\/font>You see how rust monsters are built? Their heads are floor level. They have no necks.
\nGM Vaschon: <\/b>correct<\/i>
\nTorkal: <\/b><\/font>Haha. Really? Man, I’m running away now too.
\nVeracity: <\/b><\/font>So you were craftily trying to drown the sucker.
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>whoa, nice catch, Bentein!
\nVal: <\/b><\/font>Val makes to draw something from his robes…but brings out just an open hand, which he waves. sounding like Snake from the simpsons he says, “Bye!” He climbs down as well<\/p>\nVeracity throws out her net to snare the rust monster and misses. Torkal and I hit it with sticks. I am mentally humming the old Star Trek fight music.<\/p>\n
Torkal: <\/b><\/font>Can I pole that dirty little beast?
\nPalin: <\/b><\/font>I’m passing up about a bazillion “that’s what she said” moments here.\u00a0 I hope you all appreciate my restraint.<\/p>\nAleanghi keeps her ball of fire going and partially roasts one of the smaller ones. Torkal and I climb back down below the ledge. A rustmonster follows me, hungry for my shiny shiny mail. We manage to kill it and end the combat without it touching us and dissolving our armor. It’s a miracle!<\/p>\n
Our reward for battling the rust monsters: in the chamber were they lived, we find the last of the stones we’re supposed to be gathering.<\/p>\n
