This is my fault; I just didn’t study the photographs as well as I should have. I thought they were going to attach at the bound-off edge to the bound-off edges of the body inset as well as the side seams. They did not. I therefore had about ten more stitches on the sleeves than I needed. The sleeves were wide even without that, so that didn’t help.

I clearly need to work on my seaming. I can do side seam to side seam with no problem, but end to end or end to side isn’t so hot. I’ve heard that the Knitter’s Companion is a good resource for this, but I’d love to hear other suggestions.

This is the first time I’ve done daisy stitch embroidery. The flowers are deliberately cartoonish and uneven. Honest, it’s on purpose. They don’t extend around the back. I thought they’d wear away and snag with the friction of her sitting against things.

I had thought before attaching the sleeves that they were going to be too long, but they turned out just right. The sleeves are puffy because of the extra I mentioned above, but aside from that, this turned out well. It was practice for an adult-sized sweater, so on that basis, it’s a success. My daughter also really likes it, so that’s another mark in the success column.

I’d use this pattern again, but make a few modifications, like the sleeves, and lengthening the body even more than I did. This kid grows fast!

(crossposted to my own journal and <lj user=knitting>)

Emily’s flower sweater Pattern: Modified Drop Shoulder from Ann Budd’s Knitter’s Handy Book of Sweater Patterns Yarn: Encore worsted – 2 sk (plus about ten extra yards) blue, 1 sk green.
