(I tried to re-load Photoshop onto my machine today, but the disk was too scratched. I’m still waiting on a new copy of Photoshop and a newer version of Mac OSX, so no new original pics for at least another four days. Le sigh.)
Old FO plus good Emily stuff

Happy birthday, Mr. Tvini!
Yesterday was my husband’s birthday, and it was a good one.
Icing makes lousy concrete!
General updateyness.

Hey,
Only one day of summer left before school starts, so I’ve put Emily to work doing all the house cleaning. After the dishes, she’ll be re-shingling the roof.
The meeting with the teacher went well. I like her, she seems very competent. She’s got a background in special ed, so that’ll be helpful. Several of Emily’s friends from kindergarten and first grade will be in her classroom too, including her very best friend. Her teacher and I talked about strategies, and I think we’re both on the same page. I’m feeling pretty good about this.
Jayne hat orders continue to come in, and seem to have picked up slightly now that the weather’s cooling off. I seem to be getting ahead of my estimated delivery time, which is good. It’ll get better once I’ve got the mornings to knit instead of cramming it all in at night. That’ll give me a chance to make some of the things that I’ve promised other people. Including one item which I’ve decided not to follow a pattern on, but just to wing instead. We’ll see how that goes. Jayne hats on the needles for Illinois, California, and California again.
Likewise, for Fall, DR weddings are picking back up as people go back to school, and Team Wedding has some projects we’ve been able to work on. That’s always good.
Had good fun at the Stitch’n’Bitch at Books a Million last night. I had my first coffee in about a month (I get one raspberry mocha at the weekly Stitch’n’Bitch) and wound up staying up way too late. Well, at least I finished another Jayne hat and another set of repeats on Branching out.

Last night, prostiturtle brought up the post with all the alcohol stories in the comments, and it once again proved a popular topic of conversation. Another popular topic was pet loyalty. To which I will add my story!
Once, before we were married, I stayed the night with my future husband at his house (sorry, Mom and Dad!) when he was living not too far up the street. I got up in the middle of the night and fumbled for my shirt in the dark and started to put it on. I remembered that I didn’t put it on, but my husband reminds me otherwise, and he’s right: I had just gotten it over my head when I noticed it was wet. And smelled funny. What the… Holy crap! The cat had come into the room and peed on my shirt! May I just say: EWWWWWWWW!
Of course, I guess she was right to be jealous, I did wind up stealin’ her man! Ha! Take that, you stupid possessive cat!
Have you ever had a pet act possessive, jealous, or just plain weird toward someone in your life?

Serenity Now, Cheese Never.
In conjunction with the Can’t Stop the Serenity campaign, a big-screen theater in Raleigh, NC will be showing Serenity, with proceeds going to Equality Now, Joss Whedon’s charity of choice. I thought I wouldn’t be able to make it up there because the hubby was going to be out of town – ironically, out of town in Raleigh – but it looks like Thursday June 22nd will work after all. Yay!
I wish this were going on Charlotte, but I don’t have the time to organize it. I’m happy it’s going on within a 4-hour drive, though! I need to be sure the timing will work out, because this could turn into an overnight trip if I don’t want to be on the road at 2 in the morning.
This is going on in cities all over America, so if you’re a Serenity fan, check out the site and see if there’s somewhere near you that you can see it on the big screen.
Jayne hats up next are Utah, Ohio, Maryland, and Florida.
On an unrelated note, we discovered last night we discovered that while my daughter likes salt and pepper on her ice cream, she HATES parmesan cheese on her spaghetti. Live and learn.
The day so far:
7am: Tiff with husband.
8am: Take daughter to dentist. Find out she’s got a cavity in a permanent molar, which didn’t come in that long ago. Dentist believes this means she has unusually weak enamel and will need to be very careful throughout her life. Discuss using nitrous oxide to put the whammy on my daughter while filling her cavity. I tell him I need to do more research first.
9am: Run over chipmunk while taking daughter to school.
Lordy, I’m afraid to do anything else today.
ETA:

11am: Say “screw it!” and go to Original Pancake House. Order gigantic Dutch Baby filled with fresh strawberries, accompanied by bacon, skim milk, and fresh-squeezed orange juice. Eat half, take rest home to drown more sorrows in later.
Take THAT, crappy day!
Le sigh.
Hubby didn’t get off work until after 5, and the yarn store in Davidson closes at 5.
My efforts to spare my daughter a long, boring car ride were for naught anyway. My cousin (he is fine) called from the hospital and needed someone to give him a lift back to his car. He had chest pains at work today, and the nurse there called 911 and he got an ambulance ride. Said car was about 20 miles from the house. The yarn store is 25 miles from the house. Sorry, kiddo.
This has not worked out to be the Bestest Week Ever. All I want is some freakin’ Lorna’s Laces Worsted so I can make this freakin’ baby sweater out of machine-washable wool, and every day that passes is another day that I can’t be working on it. Grumble grumble.
On the up side, The kiddo and I went to Pike’s and I got a black cow while she got a strawberry sundae – with salt and pepper, of course. So there was still some fun had.
Runnin’ a little ragged.
Well, I had hoped that I’d be able to drop the kidlet off at My Gym for the morning, but I called yesterday and they’re booked up for the week. I love my daughter and I’m glad to spend time with her, but I’m not able to get as much wearwithstyle work done. I don’t want to fall behind on orders. I did toss together a listing for the Charlie Brown hat although it doesn’t look as pretty as I’d like. I’m going to try to get my friend’s 16-month-old to model it for me again before I send it off to its rightful owner.
I haven’t been getting as much sleep, and I also had terrible dreams last night. Since the hubby has also been working late this week, there’s not the extra support to make up for my tiredness. Not the best couple of days. I’ve been trying to find some time to get up to Davidson without the kiddo, since that’s a 30-minute car ride to a boring destination for her, just so I can snag some Lorna’s Laces worsted. The hubby had to go in at 6:30 this morning, but is going to try to get out early to compensate, so that may be my window of opportunity.
I’m just… tired. I’m not cut out to be a stay-at-home full-time mom. I think it wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t feel the pressure of all I have to do weighing me down. Realistically, though, that’s probably what all moms feel.
On the up side, I got my first order from Norway yesterday, which makes me happy. Also, I got up the energy to make dinner, some linguine with clam sauce, which turned out very nummy. The kiddo decided yesterday that she likes salt and pepper, particularly on ice cream. Little weirdo.
We stopped by Mom’s yesterday, and she gave us some foam rollers so that the kiddo could try her hand at the hair thing again.

“So I says to Mabel, I says…”
If I can just keep my head above water, I think it’ll be a good day today!
