Where the humuhumunukunuku ā pua’a go swimming by…

Em got one final Christmas gift today from another cousin.

That’s right. A ukulele. A completely awesome ukulele, for there is no other kind.

It’s for a kid, so it’s not exactly concert quality and I’m having a little trouble getting it to stay in tune, but without too much work I think I can get it working just fine.

I have always wanted to be able to play the ukulele, so I’m going to have to try very hard to avoid stealing this from her. Now we can form a band. Hubby on drums, me on piano, and Em on ukulele. I’ve got a barn, let’s put on a show!

Y’know… I just got a baritone uke myself. They are surprisingly cheap, actually.

Lanikai was suggested as a good starter uke, that sounds decent and improves with the addition of quality strings. http://ukulelehunt.com/buyaukulele/ has reviews on starter instruments and strings and such.

Mother/Daughter uke duet! And Hubby can still play the drums!

I’ve got my grandmother’s guitars, and I can play well enough to strum a few chords and pick out some songs. I’m not going to be performing anytime soon, but I can do a recognizable “Wildwood Flower.” The uke’s only got four strings, so there’s an advantage right there.

    From lamurray

    Send concert dates! I’m there!

Concerts in the barn…ahhh the good ol’ days. My brother, one of my sisters, and I used to have ‘concerts’ for our parents.

In the beginning…before we had any ‘real’ instruments…Dave played boxes with case knives, I played the pie pan and my sister sang lead. Whoo Hoo…now you know why we did them in the barn!!
