Another full day

Brownies went well last night. The mom who was going to run the meeting couldn’t make it, but I had a feeling she might not, so I had an emergency craft packed up. The girls made suncatchers out of clear contact paper and tissue paper sandwiched together and strung on a ribbon. We distributed a schedule for parents to sign up on and worked out timing. We’re meeting again next week because we’ve only met once this month and nobody wants to do it on Halloween, understandably. Another mom is going to run that meeting.

We didn’t get to meet the new girls in the troop last night, as the mom who couldn’t make it was also their ride. This was disappointing for Emily. She’d really been looking forward to meeting them, and it threw her off. She chose not to participate in the craft, saying she was too tired. She also wanted to explore the new environment, which was kind of overwhelming to her, since we’re now meeting in a different location. It’s the classroom of one of the other Brownies.

Lemme tell you, that classroom is NICE. My kid’s in a trailer – excuse me, “learning cottage” – out behind the school. This kid’s upstairs (they have an upstairs!) inside the building in a roomy class with space for a guinea pig class pet. Did I mention that the school superintendent’s child goes there?

It’s really something to see what money can do. The halls are filled with “these companies match your donations!” and “Thank you for making our Fall fundraiser a success!” My kid gets fliers sent home outlining the Title I school parent involvement plan and their English as a Second Language classes for parents.

I think our school’s teachers are great, and I’ve had very good experiences with the staff. It’s hard enough for Emily to make friends so I wouldn’t move her now, but if I had seen this school when she was starting kindergarten, I’m not sure what choice I would have made. However, Emily’s happy, and I’m pleased with the care and education she’s getting. Hers is a low income school, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad school.

Anyway! This morning I’m going to the girl scout store to pick up some badges for a girl who was very busy earning try-its over the summer. I’m also getting info on an upcoming hayride. You get a patch for doing it, and these girls love their patches. Then to the bank to deposit some moolah, to the grocery store for milk, gotta put the right earflap on another Jayne hat that’s going out to Walla Walla (hee! Walla Walla!), finish off another for Seattle… and you know what? Maybe while I’m out I’ll stop by Heroes Aren’t Hard to Find and Visart Video, just for myself. They’re located right next to each other, and I need to stop by nearby Beadlush to pick up some jump rings for… uh… another project.

On a semi-related note, I cannot WAIT for my Fiber Godmother package to get where it’s going. I have something to show y’all and I can’t do it until it arrives.

Y’all got me thinking about Becket, so maybe I’ll rent that to watch while I knit. I deserve it.

Have a great day!
