Summertime

Well, my husband is back from Niagara Falls. And what did the romantic devil bring me? A splatter screen and a souvenir jug of maple syrup. Back off, ladies, he’s mine!

I kid, but I had been talking about needing to get a splatter screen, and I love real maple syrup. It’s the Yankee in me. This was a sweet gift, and I appreciate it.

Now that I have the digital camera back, I can take pics, which I know you’ve all been clamoring for. (Oh, hush, leave me my illusions.) First are ‘s requested earrings. The shade on these is “medium emerald” but it’s the closest to dark green I’ve got. The wire wrapping is nothing to write home about, and I didn’t notice the clipped wing on one of the dragonflies until it was done… but it’s free, so enjoy, Reexy!

While I’m at Simucon this year, Emily will be going to the beach with her father. She is ready to go NOW. Even though she knows they’re not going until July, she’s spent the last two days in a swimsuit, coverup, flipflops, straw hat, and sunglasses, just to get in the mood. The wet hair is because she just took a bath, then got right back into her swimwear again afterward. She’s also got a grass mat, sandshovel, beach ball, etc. spread out in the kitchen for maximum beachiness. Love the optimism!

I wanted to sign her up for swim classes this summer, but it conflicted with another of her summer camps, her beloved Jami Masters School of Dance. She was willing to switch from Little Mermaid week to another princess week, so it looks like we can do both. Right now, she thinks she can swim, but she really can’t. That’s a dangerous state of affairs, so it’s time to rectify it.

The other day at the hardware store, I picked up some silicone muffin cups. Whenever I make muffins, I always have enough left over for just one or two muffins, so I thought I’d try these out. I put them on a baking sheet and pop them in the oven next to the conventional tin. For this batch, I baked them about two minutes less than the regular ones, but I don’t think it mattered. They turned out just fine. The shape’s a little different, as you can see, but who cares? I’m really pleased with these, especially because I can stack them and put them in a drawer, which is a huge space saver.

These are blueberry cream muffins from allrecipes.com. Usually I have a much healthier recipe that I use, but I wanted something for Steve when he got home from Niagara in case he was hungry, and I didn’t want to inflict my health food on him. Having said that, I did cut the sugar by a quarter and substitute in some whole wheat flour and wheat germ for part of the flour. And I halved the recipe – we don’t need a gross of muffins. Notoriously picky Emily will eat these without complaint – if I tell her to.

Up next, more Jayne hats – and a few non-Jayne orders. Woot!

Hats up for: MO, CA, FL.
