Pretty good day!

Emily had an excellent day at school. She’s really been busting her hump doing homework to catch up from the days she missed. She’s doing well enough now that she’s back on the “traffic light” system like the other kids. It no longer completely freaks her out that she might get a yellow for bad behavior, and so far it seems to be a good motivation. Today she did so well that she gave me a “no homework coupon.” Apparently, she’d done such a good job with her schoolwork that she didn’t have to do any homework tonight. She does have a page to do, but the teacher apparently gave her a free pass not to do it tonight.

Also, her teacher says, “We had an assembly this morning and they picked some volunteers to dance with them. I turned around and Emily had joined them in front. 🙂 She did a great job and talked about the dancing all day.” Emily dances with wild abandon. She’s like a mosh pit ballerina.

We went back up to the post office today, having three packages to mail out. Turns out we missed the grand finale yesterday, where the combatants seemed to have calmed down, but then one grabbed a beer bottle and smashed the other one over the head with it. Yikes. Well, they weren’t up there today, needless to say.

I’ve got whatever Emily had, although I’m not as sniffly. It seems to be mainly staying up in my sinuses and draining quietly down the back of my throat. Yes, it is disgusting, thanks. I wish I’d been able to be more alert for Emily this afternoon, as she was very active and, for want of a better word, “normal.” She wanted to do a science experiment with vinegar, baking soda, and a rubber glove that she had seen in school. I said we didn’t have any rubber gloves. A bit later, as I was sending an e-mail, I heard water running in the kitchen and went to check it out. She had the baking soda out of the cupboard, a napkin from a drawer and had gotten a ZipLoc bag and had it half-filled with water. She was apparently going to pour the baking soda into the napkin, drop it in the bag, an watch the bag explode. I guess she’d forgotten about the vinegar. She was apparently going to do this in the middle of the kitchen.

I got the vinegar and we set up the experiment outside. Then she ran all the way to the back of the yard, being timid about loud noises and explosions. The bag popped, and we talked about carbon dioxide and gas. I’m not sure how much she got, but it was still fun. Then, I hated to do it, but we had to go inside because I was just wiped out from this cold. When the hubby got home, I took a nap. I’m about to go to bed now.

Tomorrow I’m scheduled for CPR and First Aid training for Girl Scouts. Hopefully I’ll be feeling better by then!

Next time I’ll try to post about the socks, which are finished and beautiful, but apparently NOT superwash. Oops.

Hats up for: GA, WI, and MI.
