Brioche stitch how-to

It was difficult for me to visualize brioche from reading about it, so I thought it would be helpful to see it broken down into its components.

Here’s how the brioche stitch goes, on a multiple of 3 stitches (it’s always a multiple of 3).

1) 2)

3) 4)

5)

You started out with three, and you end up with three: the one you slipped, the sloppy wrap going over the top of the needle, and the stitch from the k2tog. When you turn and come back, you’ll be slipping the one where you k2tog, and doing the k2tog of the wrap and the one you purled. The wrap that goes over the top looks weird now, although the others in the same row look neater, but it won’t really matter. Treat it like a regular stitch. It does work in seamlessly as you go.

Enjoy!

You know how they say about certain things, “it’s only perverted the first time?” Well, in knitting, it’s only daunting the first time. After you do it once, it’s perfectly normal!
