The other day I went in and saw my daughter crawling out of the dryer. It’s raining, so I go to dry some clothes today, and the dryer door won’t close. Well, it’ll close for a second, but then it pops back open again.
The cuteness of my daughter coming out of the dryer was not worth the cost of a new dryer. grumble.
Do you at least get a new dryer that has fancier options than the old one?
My old one had been an electric dryer with two settings: “Do you want your clothes dry: Yes or no? If yes, turn on, and run for two cycles. If not, do something else.”
My new one, chosen because the house didn’t have the appropriate electric hookup in the utility room (gas instead), has many different options that will all result in dry clothes in one cycle. Newer dryer, more choices, cost no more than the original likely cost at the time.
Of course, if the same situation were to occur now, we’d be drying clothes on a line in the backyard, because we really can’t afford a dryer (well, okay, so we’d run the appropriate electric line to the utility room and use the old electric dryer. But you get the idea).

We do have that electric dryer. I’d sell it cheap.
Granted, I think it’d likely be cheaper for you to buy a new one than to even pay for the drive out here and back to get this one, but…
