Both would be accompanied by a few other bath/beauty type products. The felted soap would be quicker, but weirder. The flower washcloth would take longer, but is probably more traditional. I have at least four teachers to provide gifts for.

Thoughts? Other options I haven’t thought of? I’m a bit leery of doing hats or garments, since that seems like it could vary so much from person to person.

    Cool, huh? I used the last batch I made, and also gifted some to friends. I love it. All you need is some roving (Fiber Trends variety pack works fine) and some regular soap. You lay the roving around the soap, and rubba rubba rubba! I made the flower by needle-felting some Lamb’s Pride bulky onto the roving before I wetted the roving and felted it around the soap. Although regular soap works fine, I figure if I’m going to go to all that trouble, I’ll use nice soap, not just Ivory. My red and black “kiss my face” soap (roving around 1/2 big bar) was faaabulous and lasted forever. It lathers like crazy. Here are instructions!

    While the felted soap is way cool, it may not go over as well with the teachers as it does with the rest of us. I’d stick with the washcloth. Too bad you couldn’t do both!

    I consulted my mother, 6th grade science teacher, and she votes soaps. Reason given is that you have no way of knowing the color scheme in someone’s bathroom and there’s a big chance you’ll end up giving someone a pretty wash cloth they can’t put in the guest bathroom (or whatever) because it clashes horribly. Also, most people already have a full set of matching bath towels\cloths, but soap gets used up.

    Pleasepleaseplease no candy or plants. Though I think you’re talking about gifts you’d knit, so…

    (I can’t keep a plant alive, and let’s just not go there with candy. I got waaaaaay too much at Christmas.)

    That’s pretty cool! It’s like a washcloth and soap rolled into one! Thanks for the link 🙂 David’s mom is going to teach me how to spin this summer, so I should have some roving on hand soon . . . maybe I’ll try it 🙂
