Hard day.

Sometimes it is very difficult to hear my daughter say the same thing over and over.

Sometimes it makes me very sad.

But she is my daughter, and I love her very much.

I’ll get over it. Soon. For a while.

I apologize for the uncharacteristic self-pity. I’ll be back to my hard-knittin’, hard-GMin’, hard-shootin’-my-D&D-comrades-in-the-ass self soon.

Don’t feel guilty for being human. Easier said than done of course, but even superhero moms need a break. Besides, self pity can be quite cathartic some times. Feel free to wallow in it for a bit and have a good gutwrenching sob. 😉

If you need a sounding board, my shoulders are pretty broad.

I said it in IMs, but I might as well repeat it here for posterity.

I had one of the best mothers in the world. That said, I can say without the slightest bit of doubt that there were times where she probably wanted to strangle me. It’s normal. You seem like quite a good mother to me, so there you go.

Hm! You may be right. I mean, I am a very good mom, and yet there are times when I want to strangle you.

No, wait. What were we talking about?

(I kid because I love! Honest!)

It’s all part of my endearing charm.

Lady, you are a most excellent mom. I can tell by the advice you give me when you chime in. Children of all ages are hard and challenging and awe-inspiring and wonderful and many other things all at once… and that’s why motherhood is THE hardest job on the planet. Don’t forget that, or that you ARE doing a good job as being your daughter’s mom.

We have a copy of “Welcome to Holland” taped to the fridge. I’m sure you’ve read it. My mother said it helped when she watched all the other moms’ kids climbing trees and going on dates and getting grounded, and the things she had to yell at me for were along the lines of ripping out my IVs and swearing at medical personnel.

Yeah, I’ve got about five copies of “Welcome to Holland” that my daughter’s various professionals have given me. I’m not much for inspirational bromides, although that does seem to be a famous one that helps people. More power to ’em. Me, I’ve become fluent in Dutch, volunteer with The Great Holland Society, I even eat hollandaise sauce on my fries… and I *still* would rather be in Italy.

    Different strokes, eh?
