That’s bleak.

So I’m trying to do better about getting more sleep, which was completely stymied last night when I wasn’t able to get out to knitting night until 9pm, then had to stop by the store on the way home, then had to answer some Jayne hat mail that stacked up while I was in Richmond Tuesday and catching up on Wednesday. So I turned to a copy of Prevention magazine I had on hand (thanks for the subscription, Mom!) that had tips for waking up refreshed. I quote,

Note good things to come
Before going to bed, put a sticky note on your alarm clock reminding you of something fun or exciting that’s happening the next day. “Because of hormonal shifts that occur while we’re asleep, the majority of us wake up feeling a bit down or in a so-so mood,” says Dana Lightman, PhD, a behavioral psychologist in Abington, PA. “Remembering that you’re having lunch with a friend or that your favorite TV show will be on that night gives you a quick lift.”

Okay, let’s try that! You all know what an optimist I am, how I try to find the silver lining in any situation. So I got a sticky pad and a pen and thought for a moment.

And thought. And thought. And thought.

I couldn’t come up with a single exciting or fun thing that I had going on today. Nothing. Unbelievable. That made me feel worse than I did before I started this whole exercise.

So help me out, guys. I want to live vicariously. What’s something fun or happy that YOU have going on today?

In the meantime, I’m off to run errands and then pack up a hat and six kits.

    Uhm…well…

We get a catered lunch at work today from a favorite local restaurant (Chinese…yay Walnut Prawns!)

And there’s a new episode of CSI on tonight. And it’s Thursday, which means the weekend is ever closer.

Oh! And I’m almost done packing up that craft box for you and Emily…I have a few more nooks and crannies to fill in but I should be getting it mailed Saturday or Monday. So yay, fun things in the mail!

    Re: Uhm…well…

    Mmmm… prawns.

Maybe I’ll decide to order out tonight. There’s a Vietnamese place up the road that has excellent goi cuon and maybe I’ll be bad and get some of my childhood comfort food – fried wonton – to go along with it.

See? You already made me feel better.

I suspect most of us don’t have “exciting” or “fun” things going on every day. But many days hold possibilities of pleasure: a pick-me-up comment from a friend on the blog, reminding us of those who love us. A deer in the back yard. A laugh over a TV show. A husband coming home who loves you. Maybe you could plan small things to give you pleasure, pamper yourself, like looking at clouds and dreaming or putting on a new hand lotion. I think the aim of the exercise is to be sure you’re taking care of yourself as best you can, not just others. That was maybe way too deep. But you get my drift.

    She is!

And she’s right, too. You’re already planning to get some favorite foods now based on what I posted earlier, which wasn’t on your immediate radar when you were sitting with your pad and pen. So see? She knows what she’s talking about.

    Nummy!

Isn’t it interesting how many of our good times revolve around food?

Oh, I have no illusions about the fact that food makes me feel better!

I LOVE to eat delicious things, especially when I didn’t have to cook them 🙂

Tonight Bob and I are going out to opening night of Noises Off at the theater company he volunteers with. I would have been excited to go see it anyways, as it’s supposed to be very funny, but we put in a LOT of work on it — it’s got a two-story revolving set, partially built by me despite my technically being an “electrician” (read: I hand the color gels to Bob when he’s putting the lights up). We will meet up with our good friends the head electrician and the head set builder and their lady friends, and then we will have a wonderful meal (likely at our usual spot, which is generally very tasty) and then we will proceed around the corner and drink lots of wine and laugh our butts off.

And I don’t know what was in that sangria last night, but I was mooning over him something awful last night. It’s been a year, and suddenly I am twitterpated.

And I have stuff which will arrive from Amazon and trade people coming in the mail. Yay packages!

And in the midst of all my crap with my mom, I feel like I am finally in a place to be getting a better relationship with my brother.

And my knitting mojo is good, and I finished my hat for my brother and sent it to him, and he will wear it, because he is my favorite recipient and always is proud to show it off 🙂

    That sounds absolutely fantastic!

I’ve seen the movie version of Noises Off, so I can picture the set you’re talking about. What a mammoth undertaking!

Uhmm.. I get to go home to two crazy kitties.
I’m going to tackle kitchener stitching garter stitch together tonight.
And there’s going to be a meeting today at 3:45 with Tribal people that might bring glad tidings of great joy for us lowly worker drones. Maybe. But I’ll have to wait till tomorrow to hear about it because I leave at 3. *lol*
