New Joss Whedon show on FOX? Now I know what that earthquake in California was all about. I guess when Hell freezes over, it shakes the foundation here a little bit.

I’m watching, baby!


In Emily news, Halloween was a great success. Her ghost costume was well-received, and we saw more kids out this year than usual. Some of them, however, stepped out of cars driven by their parents, so I think the thing now must be for the parents to drive them around until they see a house with a porch light on, then let the little nippers out to ring the doorbell. Maybe I’m getting crotchety, but if you live in the neighborhood and there are houses within your view with the porch lights on, do a little legwork!

But I digress. Here’s Emily counting her haul. She only wanted to go to about six houses, which was fine with us. She looks so big. I don’t know what it is, but she’s just looked so grownup lately. Stop growing, baby mine! Emily’s favorite Halloween candy, by the way, is candy corn.


Today, mo’ knitting and packing of Jayne hat kits. Also, I need to do more Jayne peripheral stuff, like write notes and stamp padded mailers. It’s the little touches that count!

    So Alan Tudyk’s “We Don’t Work For Fox Anymore” party was all for naught.

    I think we hit about nine houses in our neighborhood, but that’s all we needed to. The kids sacks were full by that point. We only went around our block.

    Maybe it’s just me but I remember getting one or two pieces of candy per house. Now they get fistfuls of the stuff. You barely have to work at Trick or Treating anymore it seems.

    We took our boys to the Mall again this year, trick or treating from store to store. It was crowded but not packed, and my feet were killing me by the end of it, but they were well-behaved and had a great time.

    Note to self: Next year bring safety pins. The new bags got too heavy and the seams started to rip.

    I like to offer more than one kind of candy, but we don’t get very many kids here, so I let them grab several pieces so we don’t have a huge bowl left over. There are pre-packaged mixtures, but most of those have some good stuff and some awful stuff (I bought one this year, and we have a whole pile of Hershey’s “chocolate pops” left over, and I tried one and think we’re just going to pitch the rest of them. We did learn that the 16-month-old likes Reese’s Pieces, which is good, because nobody else in the house does).

    I thought about ya’ll last night. One of the houses one block over from us was showing the Charlie Brown Halloween Special projected on their garage door during Trick or Treat hours. It was so neat!

    In our neighborhood, the kids that live there hoof it. The ones in cars are almost always from other neighborhoods. We only have an hour, so I imagine them telling the kids to hurry up so they can hit the next area. This would explain the very rude behavior near the end of the hour.

    Have you seen Pushing Daisies? His (childhood) ghost costume — cowboy sheets w/ serged eyeholes — made me swoon.

    I have a “system.” A handful if they’re actually in costume AND polite, and it goes down from there. College kids w/o costumes get 1 piece (insurance against vandalism) and rude kids who shove others to get to the door get 1.
