Mama’s girl.

Tonight at about 8:30, just as daylight is fading, my daughter gets out of bed and opens her door. She’s holding a tiny book of funny things kids say, like you’d pick up at the register of a bookstore, titled “What We’ve Learned So Far.” And what’s so urgent as to pull her out of bed?

“Mom, what’s ‘dissect’?”

My daughter was reading in bed until the last possible minute and got up to ask me what “dissect” meant. I love it.

(Context was: “Never dissect something in science before you eat lunch.”)

I have probably a dozen calendars from the years when my son was young. On days like this, I would write the cool thing he did or said on the calendar. When I’m feeling nostalgic (or when I just can’t stand him any more ::grin::), I page back through the calendars, and it refills me with the wonder and awe of watching a child grow.

Something like this would make my calendar. That Emily of yours is a miracle, girl. Doesn’t she make you feel blessed?
