Two more days!

Two more days until the Serenity premiere – and I’ve just realized that having someone come over and watch my kid means that they’ll actually be IN MY HOUSE which means I need to clean it enough so that it at least isn’t a health code violation. I’ll be doing that in my voluminous spare time.

Ahahahahahaaaaa! Spare time! I slay myself. Woo!

An e-mail went out to everybody registered at the official Serenity bulletin board, including a letter from Joss Whedon. Here’s an excerpt:

“So what now? There have been so many posts about seeing it, seeing it again, the first weekend, the second weekend, being enthusiastic without being obnoxious (and yes, it IS hard to see over the pom-pom of a Jayne hat), buying tickets in advance, making a noise… I honestly wouldn’t know what to add. “

Yes, I know he’s not referring to my Jayne hat specifically, but it does make me happy that the hat’s being mentioned at all. It’s more confirmation that it’s cool with Joss to have everybody out there building up the Jayne hat army. I personally choose to believe that he had a “down in front!” moment in a theater somewhere.

Then there’s cool cat , who made one for herself and her new hubby and wore them to the sneak preview. Apparently, they went over well. She reports that the two people behind them in the theater leaned forward and said, “We wanted you to know that we’re planning on killing you and stealing your hats. Just thought you’d like to have fair warning.”

Moral of the story is: wear your Jayne hat with pride, but take it off once you’re in the theater. You never know who’s behind you.

That’s why I usually sit in the back of the theater. You never know when you’ll be drawn into a web of intrigue and murder.

Man, I hate when that happens.

    Also, you made me laugh/snort.

Would it be possible to buy the pattern and a pom-pon from you? ’cause yanno I’ll go to spinner hell if I didn’t actually spin and dye the yarn myself…

    Thanks!

Hee hee! You do make the most gorgeous yarn. Very droolworthy!

Sure, just pattern and pompom would run six bucks including shipping. It calls for size 10 1/2 needles, with gauge about 4.25 stitches per inch – but I’m sure you know your own yarn and can wing it. 🙂

Since there’s only a day left before the premiere, I can drop it in the mail priority today, but I certainly coudln’t make any guarantees that it would get there by tomorrow. If you’re interested, you can paypal me at wearwithstyle at gmail dot com.

Thanks so much! I’m no so worried about the premier so no rush, but since I found out that a certain person likes the show it will still make a good holiday present. I’m thinking a nice merino/alpaca blend, hmm? Actually, if you could include a long snippet (maybe a foot) or so of one of the yarns that will help me spin to the right weight. The pompon will help me hit the color.

I will, of course, give you full credit as the designer when I show it off *smile*

So, having not seen the show at all, are there like pictures somewhere that I can see this famous hat in action?

PS – please think good thoughts toward Taos NM if you have a couple spares on Saturday afternoon – I’m sending some skeins 🙂

    Hi.

I’m new to knitting, but I love Firefly! I saw on that you have Jayne Cobb hat kits for sale? If so, how do I order one? I’m definitely not expecting one for the premiere so there’s no rush on my end, but it’d be good to have a kit, as I am just starting out on this wacky knitting thingy.

Many thanks! If you want, you can just email me the info: spinifex@gmail.com

I dropped you a line – should I assume from your user name that you play Kingdom of Loathing?
