Dinosaur hat and Donors Choose yarn contest

My heavens, it was nice to get an order for something other than a Jayne hat. Don’t get me wrong, I loves the Jayne hats, but after 63 in a row, a break was good. I love the moxie of the teenager ordering these – he’s going to be the coolest geek in his school.

Front Back

This is obviously based somewhat on the little devil baby hat and the kittyville hat, but with some alterations. There are more garter stitch rows, different needle size and therefore gauge, a greater number of cast-on stitches, shorter ties, earflaps are spaced differently (more room across the forehead) slightly different decrease pattern, and, well… spines. I’m thinking of doing this in the future for adults as just a regular ole hat with ribbing at the base and no earflaps. I’m also thinking of getting some nice superwash wool, like the now-discontinued Mission Falls 1824 in basil and sprout. How come every time I like a yarn, it’s discontinued, and every time I like a TV show, it’s cancelled? Ugh.

Maybe I should write up a pattern.

After this, more Jayne hats orders waiting!

In other news, the Donors Choose yarn contest ends on the 30th. Donors Choose is an educational charity which is currently funding school supplies to classrooms taking in Katrina kids. These are schools which are already strained to the max which don’t have a lot of extra to spare, so this is a chance for you to make a big impact on a kid who really needs help.

Donate $10 to Donors Choose, forward me your confirmation e-mail, and you will be entered to win loot from my stash. Each $10 enters you again. I’ve put up a few new bits, like some Margaret Stove laceweight and some handspun. Right now it looks like everybody could win *something* which is a good thing. Remember, it’s a drawing, so you’re not guaranteed to win – but you are guaranteed to feel good about yourself after helping a kid get back on his or her academic feet.
