I blame my husband.

My daughter takes after my husband in many ways. If you saw a picture of them both as children, you might think they were twins. She’s got his blue eyes and his big feet. She’s also got his height.

All grown up now, my husband is 6’2″. For you non-Americans, that’s about 1.88 meters. At Girl Scouts last night, in a group of girls exactly her age, Em was easily the tallest by a couple of inches. It’s beginning to present some challenges.

This past weekend, I got her a new outfit for Spring – a pair of pedal pushers (pants coming just past the knee) and a short-sleeved shirt. I got the biggest size you can usually get in children’s sizes – size 14. She just tried the outfit on, and the pants are too snug. The shirt, she can get by in, but the pants, no way.

At age 10, my daughter has moved up to “Misses” sizes. I calculate she’ll be about a size 2. I think. I’m not that clear on how one figures these things out.

I am so not ready for her to be shopping in the grownups’ sections. More to the point, I’m not ready for her to grow up. But somehow, it keeps happening all the same.

I should have married a short man.

Ohboyhowdy, can I sympathize with the perils of finding clothes that fit an extra-tall frame.

Can you move her to juniors, rather than misses, sizes?

Ooh, I should have asked you for advice first! I’m sure you feel her pain.

Juniors might be better. It’s been a long time since I’ve been in that clothing bracket myself. I’ll check it out, thanks!

I totally do, and I’m happy to help if you run into any other issues.

Juniors would probably be better for a few reasons. The clothes are cut more straight up and down than women’s, juniors clothes are usually cheaper, and they’re more likely to be similar to what her friends are wearing. They generally come in odd numbered sizes that are fairly close to misses sizing (when I wore an 8 in women’s, I wore either a 9 or 11 in juniors). You might have some luck with size charts on department store websites.

And Miley Cyrus is selling a line of clothes in Juniors’ sizes at Walmart right now, too! Some of it’s a little on the skanky side (the dresses), but there are quite a few tops I wish I could fit into. 🙂

Yeah Juniors! I can still shop in there, so I do! Kohl’s has a pretty good selection if you have one around you. They also have really good sales quite often. I went last weekend and spend a bit over $100 and saved over $80 according to my receipt! I walked out with 2 pairs of pants and probably 6 tops. Graphic tees and that sort of thing.

As someone pointed out earlier the Miley line at Walmart has some really cute stuff too, and I also agree that some of it is kind of skankish.

You may also take a peek at Burlington or TJ Maxx if you have one near you! Sometimes their stuff is hit or miss, but they do have a fair bit to choose from.

Juniors do tend to run a bit larger than Misses.

ETA: Kohl’s website says they are still doing their President’s Day sale through the 21st!

These capris are kind of close to the shorts you have above: http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/juniors/shortscapris/capris/PRD~554561/Unionbay+Scout+Convertible+Capris.jsp

Kohls also has really good clearance sales too! There’s always at least four or five racks at mine when the seasons/styles change over!

I got this brand of pants: http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/juniors/jeans1/flare/PRD~373085/SO+Basic+5Pocket+Jeans.jsp

Though in store they rang up 17.99 instead of 19.99. I also got $20 Kohl’s Cash that I need to go spend!
