blood pressure and fish

This morning I went to the doctor to get my blood pressure checked after that high reading last week. It was a good 10 points lower in the doctor’s office, back out of the OMG HYPERTENSION range. Clearly I was more “het up” about standing up than I thought, and chugging that coffee probably didn’t help. We’re just going to keep an eye on it for now and when I go in for my next physical in a few months we’ll discuss it again.

Fishwatch 2009: Two days ago I changed Kathleen’s water. After the change, while I was out of the room, Em got the net and transferred the fish back into her original bowl and scraped off a tiny piece of fin. The fish seems fine, but I’ve made it clear now that moving the fish is my job. It could certainly have been worse. I’ll be showing Kathleen a little extra TLC while he recovers.

Later that day, Kathleen was very angry, puffing and displaying at me whenever I got near the bowl. I was very surprised that he would have that kind of a memory. Kathleen must be some kind of fish genius!

Then I realized that I was wearing a burgundy shirt that was the same color as he was. I took it off and he calmed down. Then I held the shirt up to a different part of the bowl and he ignored me and flared his fins toward the shirty intruder.

Kathleen thought the shirt was another betta. Genius my eye.

I used to pour my beta from the bowl into a container and then back again. Seems to be less stressful on them than netting ’em, IMO.

I may do that from now on. It’s murder getting that fish out of the original bowl – it’s tough to maneuver around the space ship.

So you Didn’t name the fish Wanda? LOL

Hiya Heather! It’s moi, Wendy in Alaska. I am about to embark on an entirely new creative outlet and I’m pacing my office thinking of how to make….Firefly/Serenity finger puppets…lol. A friend convinced me to donate my finger puppet collection to the local children’s wing of the hospital she works at and I’m in dire need of playtime…lol. So I figured, hey! Why not make puppets of my favorite characters?! So I will spend the summer making them. I’ll send you pics when they’re done.

I just love the movie “A Fish Called Wanda”. Kevin Kline is so funny!

Speaking of finger puppets, we got your package today, which is fantastic! I’ll have to make a post about it soon.

Em named the fish Kathleen. We have no idea why. Maybe it’s because she’s a fiery redhead. Actually, it’s a boy, but we’re fine calling it “she.” What the fish doesn’t know won’t hurt it.

Awwwww, I’m glad you liked it. Are you allowing Emily to open the gifts I sent early? I am tickled pink that you enjoyed the package (hopefully the receiving something by mail made Em smile too).

I left it up to Em, and she split the difference. She opened one today, and she’s hanging onto one. Which means I can’t open the “don’t open until all gifts are opened” envelope! Darn it!

And yes, it did make her smile. She had a bad day, so this was perfect timing. Thank you.
