Wak wak wak!

Close that door!

Pattern: Pasha from Knitty
Yarn: Karabella Aurora 8 (100% wool machine washable) in black (1148) white (ball band lost), gold (704), and blue (1556). Polyfiberfill stuffing.
Needles: #4
Modifications: Changed needle size, yarn, did more proper seaming along edges of wings than the called-for whipstitch, and didn’t use buttons for eyes since this was for a baby.

This was knitted by request of angelfly, who was sweetly insistent upon paying me for it. However, it was someone else’s pattern, so I couldn’t (and wouldn’t!) take money for it. My birthday was coming up anyway, so I said if she felt she must, she could get me something nice from my Amazon wish list. And she did! I would have done it regardless, but how thoughtful of her!

I wanted to keep this in a luxe yarn, but also wanted it to be practical since it was for a baby. They do mess things up. I used Karabella Aurora 8 because it’s extremely soft but the label says it’s machine washable. Also, because I had scads of it in my stash from a yarn store’s going out of business sale a while back. I knew I had yellow from making a Charlie Brown sweater for someone a while back, but couldn’t find it to save my life. I wound up ordering new from kpixie.com who were quite prompt with delivery. Of course, immediately after making the beak I found the old yellow. Grr.

I’m a loose knitter, so I had to go all the way down to a size 4 needle before I got a dense enough fabric.

Issues: My wraps on one side, and only one side, seem to stick out. I don’t know why. You can see it on the stomach in this picture. It’s the same on the opposite side of the head. It’s not a huge issue, but it’s got to be something about the way I’m wrapping or picking up the wraps on the… uh… knit? purl?… one of the two sides. I’ll have to re-knit some short rows to figure out which side it was. Any ideas?

New techniques: Because it was for a baby, I didn’t want to use buttons for eyes. I tried several types of embroidered eyes, but finally settled on French knots. This was the first time I’ve done those. I knew how to do them in theory, but it was nice to get to try something new. Not hard to do at all.

This was a well-written, quick, fun pattern, and I’d definitely do it again. Wak wak wak!

Very nice! I forget how I put eyes on the one that I did. Also, for future reference, ol’Pasha felts pretty nicely too. One of my friends now owns a felted penguin, because I got tired of swatching.

The wraps woulda been on your purl side. Did the instructions not call for you to pick them up? Maybe try the YO short row technique next time.

Pasha has arrived at a very delighted and loving home!! I can’t thank you enough for doing such a wonderful job. My daughter had seen this when we first started knitting and had said very wistfully that she wished she could do it cause she really wanted it.

I loved being able to get her a very well done one that I have faith in its ability to stand up to the sort of loving I’m sure he’s going to be surviving in the near future.

    You are the bestest EVER!!

    Aw, shucks. 🙂

If she has any issues whatsoever, I’ll be glad to repair them or re-knit the item.

It’s PASHA! I’ve had my 5% done Pasha sitting in my closet for months!

I laughed when I realized where the picture was taken…

    🙂
