I hear the trumpet of angels!

I just got a call from the hubby, who says it looks like the drive can still be read! Hallelujiah! So he’s going to back everything up onto multiple DVDs, pick up a hard drive on the way home, and we’ll be back in business soon, knock wood. While we’re at it, we’re going to see how much RAM costs and maybe bump me up there, and hopefully also get a new DVD-ROM, since my old one doesn’t work reliably. It’s a real bummer when I want to put “The Muppets’ Greatest Hits” in iTunes and the drive won’t read the CD.

I’m not online much today because we picked up a copy of The Sims 2 Pets expansion pack and my daughter is busy trying to force her cats to have kittens. Also, it is apparently the funniest thing in the world when the dogs jump up on the counter and eat people food. Things that are naughty are comedy gold! Also, of course, I’m playing with her, in between cleaning, knitting, and recovering from eating some bad pasta with shrimp last night. I could do with about five more hours of sleep. (At left – you knew I’d have to find a Bernese Mountain Dog for the game! When the computer gets back, I’ll move the image to my own server, honest.)

However, the news that photos of my daughter, my Jayne list, Dragonrealms GM notes dating back to ’97, and other assorted irreplaceables are okay has made my day that much better. It’s one of those “you don’t appreciate it until you think you’ve lost it” things. Life lessons you don’t have to learn the hard way are the best.

P.S. – in the time it took me to write this post, my daughter neatly took down the curtains in her room and started playing with the curtain rings. Gonna be an interesting day!

Yay for saving everything on your old drive! Whew! 😀

And yay for Sims 2 Pets! I’m loving this expansion pack baby. So many cute furry things to play with. And that is a purdy good Berner too! :runs to download:

Oh good. I’m glad you’re not losing all that stuff. It sounds like it would have been a disaster. Gah!

I have the original Sims and all its expansion packs. Never did upgrade to Sims 2. It just felt like it’da been a waste of all that money spent on the first – what, 7? Discs. No way.

So long as you aren’t bored with the first set, that’s a great mindset! 😀 I was too tempted by the shiny new features. I didn’t really enjoy the set until I got a couple of expansions because it seemed very sparse after having all the expansions for the first one.

I got a great deal this week and ended up with Pets, University and Nightlife (a replacement to the one I destroyed) all for a grand total of $15 of my own money, so Sims 2 is all I’ve been doing, too. 😀 I haven’t really gotten to play yet, though, because Wesly decided to create our entire family and that took almost three hours (he is SO anal.)

Hey, and now you have DVD backups!

Depending on how much stuff you have, a USB flash drive might be an idea, to store those important things, or an external harddrive. You know, just to have things in two different places in case one of them decides to die on you, which they always do at the worst possible time. *glares at her dead Toshiba tablet PC* Dead HD in that one too… Well, almost dead. It has bad sectors or something, and when windows tries to boot it bluescreens like half way through and restarts the rebooting process! I had nothing important on that one yet, though, I just got it back in like August.

So hopefully once we get the new drive in we can copy my files off of the old one. Evil pricey laptop HDs.

Sweet! I’ve got University and Pets, and sprung for the “Family Fun Pack” which is just objects and outfits, but which I thought my daughter would like. I didn’t pick up the two other expansion packs – I don’t have enough time to play to make it worth my while to immerse myself in the world of jobs, and I didn’t want vampires roaming my neighborhoods.

As one might have predicted, this isn’t going as smoothly as I might hope. On the up side, I’ve got my mail back up and running again! On the down side, my CD drive has decided to open or close according to the phases of the moon. Well, one step at a time.
