Stopped by Charlotte Yarn and couldn’t resist picking up a couple of balls of Schoppel-Wolle Ambiente. I loved the crisp delineations in the spacing. A little pricey, but hey, you only live once.

Rehearsal dinner?

March 20th, 2011 No comments

I was going down the escalator at Belk’s today and somehow got in the middle of a bunch of shopping bridesmaids. One young woman was in front of me, and the rest were behind. One of the ones behind me said, “so, uh, a dress… fortherehearsaldinner. You got one?” The woman in front of me turned around and said, “What?”

Behind: Rehearsal dinner?
Ahead: …What?
Behind: Rehearsal dinner?
Ahead: …Huh?
Behind: Rehearsal dinner?
Ahead: …What?
Behind: Rehearsal dinner?
Ahead: …What?
Me: Do you have a rehearsal dinner dress?
Ahead: Oh! No, not yet.

At which point we all got off the escalator and they were all giggling at the turn of events. Fine, I’m crazy lady, but I just couldn’t take it anymore. Seriously, it was like being surrounded by parrots. Besides, the definition of crazy is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Well, at least they have something to talk about now. “Crazy lady.” “…what?”

Gift yarn

March 5th, 2011 2 comments

Yarn brought back to me from various Stitches events. I’ve got a strict one-in one-out policy, but gift yarn is excluded! Yay!

Worthy gifts, all. I may still have to clean some stuff out. Gift yarn, sadly, does take up space.

D&D Week 45: Alas, Poor Hostages.

March 1st, 2011 1 comment

So recapping where we left off, Torkal’s still surrounded by bees and plague and other badness. Bentein and Val should be arriving anytime. Torkal, Palin, Veracity, Aleanghi, and Joquil are hasted. Oh, did I mention Joquil? He’s an Elven ranger who was in the hold. Val found him and sent him upstairs, and now he’s helping us. There are higher level pirates in the hall, like the pilot and captain, and other assorted pirate crew scattered around.

Val and Bentein are down in the hold trying to free the prisoners and maybe rally them to our cause. The jury’s out as to whether it’s a good idea to ask a bunch of random peasants to take on the pirates on our behalf.

As for me personally, I have a raging cold and am hopped up on cough medicine. Also, Torkal keeps screaming DICKCHICKENS. I don’t know why. Just imagine that every time he attacks someone he shouts it. It’ll save me from typing it out.

There’s a kobold pirate cook flat on his back in the middle of the room, having slipped on a grease patch. There’s also an owlbear in the hall. Yeah, we can take these guys. Piece o’ cake.
Got it? Okay, here we go!

Bad dye.

Araucania Bad Dye

I put this hank of Araucania Nature Cotton on the swift to wind it. It was going to be earflaps for a customer’s cotton Jayne hat. Looks like the folks at Araucania tied the hank a little too tightly and the dye didn’t take. I can’t send out a hat with white spots in the earflaps.

And with that, my friends, I am done with cotton Jayne hats. They’re unpleasant to knit. They’re not cost effective to sell. The materials are inconsistent from batch to batch. And the texture isn’t really suitable for hats. So this is the last one. From now on, clients who are allergic to wool can go with acrylic.

Bonus: it’s cheaper for the customer. Jayne would get behind that.

The Underminer!

February 16th, 2011 2 comments

mole holemole hole cu

Went to hang the laundry out yesterday morning and this little hole was there. The entire area around the clothesline is riddled with mole tunnels. With every step you take, you sink a couple of inches into the ground. I guess our little underminer decided to poke a head up and see what was going on upstairs.
